The Holidays are here, believe it or not. It is crazy how fast this year has gone by. Being an artist around the holidays can be particularly stressful. Do I just make something for my gifts? Do I buy something? If your family is half the size of mine, finding the balance of making art for gifts and buying gifts is quite tough. Read on for a few ideas of art projects to do that can be done quickly, but still, be a personalized gift for your loved ones.
House Painting
This can easily be done digitally or on paper. For gift-giving, I prefer to gift framed artwork. To avoid having to get everything printed, I usually just paint it, but these can be done digitally as well. The past few years, I have given those closest to me a painting of their home. It is a cute, personalized gift that is relatively easy to whip up.
Handmade Christmas Card
These have always been a favorite of my close friends and family. It can be added to a plate of cookies or another gift. It can also be given as-is for a simple, easy to make Christmas gift for neighbors or friends. These can be especially useful to make digitally since you can draw one and print many.
Holiday-Themed Prints
If you have access to a nice photo printer, either from a shop or your at-home printer, giving family members a cute, holiday-themed print is always a fun idea. Christmas decor lasts a lifetime, and it would add to their collection of things to put up once they break out the decorations. I have a few prints floating around my family, in-laws, and friends' houses, and plan to make more this year. These can also be done digitally or on paper.
All in all, this year is a weird one. Homemade gifts might just be what everyone needs this year. Please let me know if you try out any of these ideas!
