Are you having a hard time navigating Procreate after the most recent update? You are not alone. After researching the contents of the update, I found four of my new favorite features in the app. Read further to see what I found.
New Filters
After the most recent procreate update, the app now boasts a handful of new filters for your art. These are really fun ways to add a little flair to your designs. Above are a few examples of the Glitch, Chromatic aberration, Halftone, and Bloom I applied to a little doodle. On the far left is normal, and then it goes in order of bloom, halftone, chromatic aberration, and glitch. I see myself using the chromatic aberration filter a lot. And here is a little doodle of an airplane that I altered using the glitch filter in a different setting than above.
Pencil and Layer Filters
Before the update, you could apply some filters to layers, like a gaussian blur, and when you did that you could adjust the whole layer.
With the new update, you can now adjust the whole layer or use your pencil to draw in where you want the filter applied. This allows for the ability to meticulously add where you want details.
Here you can see the adjustments window open and the Bloom filter selected. Prior to the update, it would just show the filter and then you could adjust the layer. Now, as you can see, there is an option to adjust the layer or use the pencil to draw the filter on where you want it.
Instant Palettes
One of my absolute favorite features of the new update is the ability to create instant palettes. Prior to the update, you had to insert a photo or create your own colors, select each color, and add it to the palette. Now, we are able to insert a photo, and Procreate will generate a palette based on the colors in the photo. This is a game-changer! This has saved me so much time. Often times I find a picture on Pinterest or something that I love the colors of. With this new feature, I can just save the picture and insert it into the app and use it for color. You also have the ability to take a picture with your device and it will make a palette based on the image.
Reference Window
One other great hack is to use the new reference window feature. We now have the ability to keep a reference image on the screen to keep looking at. This is super helpful so that we don't have to keep going back and forth between the photo and the drawing we are working on. This is also helpful for me because I can insert my own work and my personal font sheets so I can use them to keep my handwriting consistent throughout.
This new update has been heavy, and it can be hard to know what is going on. This research has been really helpful for me, and hopefully, you will feel more confident navigating the app after the update.
